Online education is a natural fit for differently abled students. Whether you're unable to attend a physical classroom, require an aide to help you type, or simply need a little more time and quiet to concentrate than a traditional college can provide, DArTT has many advantages.
In addition, if you have a medical condition or learning disability that requires special accommodations, DArTT will do everything we can to meet those requirements for you. Your success is our priority.
DArTT's online education model has many advantages for those with special needs, including:
- at-home, flexible scheduling means you are able to study when and where you are most comfortable;
- one-on-one instruction means you have the instructor's full attention at all times;
- our digital format is easily channelled into your own software that can read aloud to you;
- unless you disclose it, your disability need never be announced to your instructor or fellow students (NOTE: special accommodations will not be available unless you disclose to your instructor);
- if you apply for a student loan and declare a disability, you can apply for a Canada Study Grant for the Accommodation of Students with Permanent Disabilities that can pay for extra expenses such as attendant care, note takers, or special equipment.
DArTT provides its instructors with training and resources that enable them to work with students who have learning disabilities.
If you have a medically-defined disability that requires special accommodations from DArTT, you must fill out our self-disclosure form and submit supporting documents.
From there, we can make accommodations as necessary on an individual basis.
